CHF Finances 1,800+ Bed Project for the University of North Carolina at Wilmington

A public-private partnership between Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions and the University of North Carolina Wilmington is set to break ground on a 1,814-bed residential development on the university’s campus.

The project, which will be built in two phases, is set to feature a 3,500-square-foot dining hall and community amenities including group study and collaboration spaces and a learning center for the sophomore class. Phase I of development is scheduled to open in fall 2020, and will include 1,038 student beds in pod-style configurations for first-year students.

Phase II, set to open in fall 2021, will include both pod- and semi-suite-style units for second-year students and upperclassmen. The development is being designed by Clark Nexsen Architecture and Engineering and constructed by Balfour Beatty Construction. Collegiate Housing Foundation, a national non-profit entity, is the project’s residential facility owner through an issuance of project-based, tax-exempt debt financing. The university will manage the community upon completion.
